Hospital Description:
Since 1913, Saint Francis Hospital has been a vital part of Charleston and its surrounding communities. The hospital is a 155-bed acute care facility with more than 290 medical staff members, including Primary Care and specialty physicians. As stated in its mission statement, Saint Francis will continue to strive to be recognized as the organization that provides excellence in quality and compassion in the delivery of cost-effective healthcare.
The Emergency Department was built in 2000. This 12-bed department sees an annual volume of 15,500 patients. Included among the 12 beds are two trauma rooms, one exam room, and one ENT. All rooms have closed doors for privacy and are centrally monitored. Triage is done in a separate room located off the waiting room area. Physician coverage is provided 24 hours daily with physicians working twelve-hour shifts. The majority of patients seen in the Emergency Department are adult geriatric cases. Some pediatric cases are seen but not admitted and these are transferred to Charleston – Women & Children’s. Area Medical Center

Qualifications:
Interested physicians must be board-certified/residency-trained in Emergency Medicine or a Primary Care specialty with Emergency Medicine experience.
