Hospital Description:
MacNeal Hospital, affiliated with the University of Chicago, has been servicing the healthcare needs of Chicago’s families for more than 75 years. MacNeal Hospital is a 427-bed teaching hospital with a complete range of hospital-based services. It was named one of the country’s top 100 hospitals in delivering quality medical care and operating with fiscal responsibility by the 1996 “Benchmarks for Success” study. This was the second time MacNeal Hospital has received this distinction.

The Emergency Department is a Level II Trauma Center with an annual volume of 48,000 patients. There are 56½ hours of physician coverage daily. The ED consists of 26 rooms with all 26 beds private. There are four additional beds in the triage area. Level I & II Trauma visits account for 50 to 60 cases per month with 1,000 minor trauma cases per month, 1,000 pediatric cases and 2,000 medicine cases per month. The ED admissions account for 50% of hospital admissions.

Berwyn was founded in 1890. A residential community of 46,000, it is located in northeastern Illinois eight miles from Chicago’s Loop business district.
