St. Mary’s Hospital has been servicing the healthcare needs of Decatur’s families since 1878, when the city’s first hospital was established. St. Mary’s Hospital is a 370-bed, fully accredited, modern healthcare facility located on a 21-acre campus. The commitment to its founders goes unchanged: to serve the needs of the sick and poor with dignity and respect, compassion, and joy. The Emergency Department sees an annual volume of 25,000 patients. Patients are approximately 50% medicine-related, 20% pediatric, and 10% to 20% trauma-related. The department consists of 13 rooms with 17 beds.

Location Description:
Located in central Illinois, Decatur, with a population of 83,000, is a regional center for commerce, education, and culture. Its industries move, feed, and fuel the world! Decatur’s industrial growth was propelled by the creation of Lake Decatur in the early 20th century. Decatur is home to a number of Fortune 500 companies.

Residential communities are close to transportation, shopping malls, schools, parks, and recreation areas. Lake Decatur provides 36 miles of shoreline for cycling, hiking, boating, and fishing. The Decatur Park District covers over 2000 acres and is comprised of 42 parks, 5 public golf courses, more than 40 tennis courts, a riding stable, a public zoo, 2 swimming pools, and sailing facilities. The city has two outstanding institutions of higher education, Millikin University and Richland Community College. Millikin University has been cited in a national survey as one of the nation’s outstanding small, comprehensive universities.

All interested candidates must be board-certified in Emergency Medicine or Primary Care with EM experience.
