Advocate
Christ Medical Center (ACMC), a 695 bed not-for-profit teaching and research institution, seeks a Board Certified Cardiologist for our rapidly growing Heart Transplant Center.  This position involves all aspects of evaluation and clinical care of heart transplant patients, including but not limited to management of patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), pulmonary hypertension, inpatient and outpatient cardiac transplantation, and ventricular assist devices (VADs). 

There are also significant opportunities for clinical research in heart failure and cardiac transplantation.  Since January 2008, the ACMC Heart Transplant Center has already performed five heart transplants with excellent outcomes and expects to perform 15-20 transplants annually.

 

The selected candidate must be board certified in cardiovascular disease and have a strong heart transplant/heart failure background with a primary focus in cardiac transplantation.   The candidate should also meet the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) criteria for transplant cardiologists.

 

ACMC is part of Advocate Health Care, Chicago’s largest provider of health care and one of the nation’s leaders in VAD technology, including destination programs. Other notable accomplishments include:

  • The largest provider of cardiac surgery in Illinois.
  • First in the United States to implant a HeartMate2 LVAD for destination therapy.
  • One of the top five hospitals nationally for LVAD surgeries and the first program in Illinois (2nd program nationally) to receive Joint Commission disease specific VAD certification.
  • First in Illinois to perform robotically assisted mitral-valve repair surgery.
  • Perform more than 5,000 procedures each year in our cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs.
  • Recipient of Joint Commission disease specific certification for the treatment of patients with congestive heart failure.
