Facility Description

Cox Family Medicine Residency is an ambitious program that combines intellectual, academic excellence with the "real-world" experience of a community hospital. Established in 1987, we have developed a unique, engaging and exciting foundation for family medicine education. Our clinic is recognized as an NCQA Level III Patient-Centered Medical Home.

We are located in the heart of the Ozarks in Springfield, Missouri. CoxHealth serves a population of 1 million+ in a 25-county service area. Our residency program is the only ACGME-approved program in this area. CoxHealth is our sponsoring institution and is leading the way with an integrated care system with physician input from all specialties. CoxHealth is a leading employer in the area and is recognized for its fiscal strength.

Cox Family Medicine Residency was founded to prepare residents for full scope family medicine. All of our residents gain substantial experience in maternity care, with many of our graduates performing Cesarean sections after they leave the program. We believe that residents trained in full-scope family medicine will have the diverse skills necessary to thrive in any practice setting.

Our experience and skill with the electronic medical record, in use since 1996, has allowed us to increase the quality of care for our patients through disease management and patient-centered education. In addition, we have an affiliation agreement with the University of Missouri - Columbia that provides us with access to academic and scholarly support.
