Galena is only accessible by plane, snow machine, dog sled or river boat. This is the 26^th stop in the well-known Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and the not so well known Iron Dog Snow Machine Race and the Iditasport Impossible which is a human powered Ultra Endurance Race allowing participants to use only fat tired bike, skis or feet.
