Scenic Mountain Medical Center (SMMC)is a 150-bed, full service community JCAHO accredited hospital, based in the heart of the west Texas Permian Basin. The hospital, which is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), serves the 25,000 residents of Big Spring as well as Howard County (35,000) and the surrounding Permian Basin with a service area population of 1 million within a 100-mile radius.

SMMC has an updated Geriatric Psychiatric unit and has acquired new medical diagnostic equipment including a 16-slice CT scanner, a centralized Fetal Monitoring system, and a centralized Wireless Telemetry Monitoring system. The Emergency Department is a designated Level IV Trauma center, and the hospital is certified by the American Heart Association as a "Get With The Guidelines" hospital SMMC proudly boasts a professional medical staff who practice a variety of specialties not found in other area hospitals of the same size. Many of our active staff members have obtained further credentials and are board certified in their area of specialization.
