If you’re looking for a great bar scene, check out the Pecan Point Brewery, Texarkana’s first microbrewery, housed in an historic building adjacent to the elegant Perot Theatre. Hopkins Icehouse, housed in an old feed and seed building downtown, is another great great bar option that’s popular with locals and tourists alike. 

Texarkana is home to many live music venues, shows, movie theaters and gourmet restaurants. Whatever you’re looking for, you can find it in Texarkana’s nightlife scene! 

Restaurants 

Texarkana has some excellent local restaurants and a wide variety of options to choose from. In true Texas fashion, you’ll find many wonderful Tex-Mex, Mexican and taco restaurants. Fuzzys Taco Shop (a local favorite) is a casual little spot that always serves large portion sizes and a delicious selection of tacos. Other favorites include Pecan Point Brewery, where you can find duck fries and the best beers in the city. Naaman’s Championship BBQ (housed in a former gas station with retro memorabilia) offers the best brisket in town. 

Shopping 

There is a diversity of shopping in Texarkana. If you like to browse in a traditional shopping mall with retail stores such as American Eagle Outfitters, Bath & Body Works, Aeropostle and more, try the Central Mall right off of Richmond Road. Then, cross the street for more shopping: Dress Barn, Michael’s Craft Store, Charming Charlie and others.

Texarkana has many other shopping plazas, sporting goods stores, boutiques, antique shops, and even a great local flea market (Owl’s Nest Flea Market). 

Weather 

The climate in the city is partially influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. Precipitation is spread out fairly evenly through out the year, and there can be the risk of scattered tornados because of Texarkana’s location in “Tornado Alley.” Summers can get very hot, with an average temperature of 90+ ºF most days. The good news is: winters are quite mild! Snow is very rare.

Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council 

The Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council (TRAHC) is a great place to see visual art on display year-round. With local talent, regional and national artists’ work on three different floors, and other exciting events held throughout the year, you’ll definitely want to take some time to peruse the TRAHC calendar!  

Perot Theatre 

In 1979, the beautiful Perot Theatre was restored and opened to the public, delighting and entertaining audiences of all ages with lively performances through. Though simple on the outside, you will be wowed by the beautiful Grecian architecture, gold trim and beautiful artwork inside venue. With many concerts, comedy shows, Broadway numbers, dance recitals and more, the Perot is a treasure to Texarkana. 

Texarkana Economy & Housing 

Texarkana has experienced consistent population growth within the past few years and is continuing to grow and improve on many levels. With new construction taking place on a variety of facilities, including the coal-fired power location, as well as the expansion of some of the best medical institutions and hospitals in the region, new jobs are being created and people are flocking to Texarkana to take them. 

Texarkana is very business-friendly with a convenient location next to the airport, as well as major interstates and steady job growth. Education 

Education for Children 

There are a number of great schools in the Texarkana area for students from preschool age to high school. The Texarkana Texas Independent School District serves the Texas side of Texarkana. The Arkansas side has several school districts for parents to choose from. Additionally, there are a number of Christian private schools available to students, including Trinity Christian School, St. James Day School and Veritas Academy. 

Universities 

Texarkana is home to a few universities and college campuses. Texas A&M University— Texarkana, which is a four year branch of the Texas A&M University, has about 1,900 enrolled students. The area is also home to Texarkana College, a community college with approximately 4,700 students.

Texarkana Airport (TXK) 

One of the greatest parts about living in Texarkana is the convenience of location. With the Texarkana Regional Airport (TXK) within minutes from the downtown area (on the Arkansas side of the city), it is extremely easy to get to and from your destination. The airport is close to many shopping plazas, restaurants and is open 24-hours a day. 

Haunted Texarkana Ghost Walk 

Certain places in Texarkana have a dark and haunted past, and with this haunted city ghost tour, you will have the unique opportunity learn all about the lore! Texarkana Convention Center

The Ace of Clubs House Museum 

One of the most unique and well-known historic homes in the area, the Ace of Clubs House has been recorded as a Texas Historical Landmark. With three octagonal wings and a rectangular wing, this house is literally built in the shape of a club. Built in 1885, this beautiful Victorian home is now a National Register property and has been featured on several national television broadcast networks, including HGTV’s Christmas Castles. This is an exciting and amazing home to visit and tour!

Sports 

Texas A&M— Texarkana has a vibrant sports schedule open to the public. Men and women’s tennis, baseball, and men and women’s soccer all make for fun outings. Many Texarkana natives root for the Arkansas Razorbacks college football team, as well as professional Dallas teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the Mavericks. With Dallas just a two-hour and forty-five minute drive away, catching a pro team game can be an easy overnight or day trip. 

Outdoor Recreation 

Golf 

If you love golf, one of the greatest courses in the state of Texas is the Texarkana Golf Ranch, which sits along the lovely Bringle Lake. Though challenging, the course allows for a great time on beautiful greens. Imagine thick, lush forests, more then 300 acres of grounds, 18 holes and breathtaking scenery all around. 

Bringle Lake Park 

This lovely, seven acre park has all you need for some classic outdoor recreational fun. Located right alongside the Texarkana Campus and The Texarkana Golf Ranch, this little spot has many features for the whole family to enjoy. From fishing piers to playground equipment, walking trails, sand volleyball courts, pavilions and boating, this park has it all!
