Job Description

As a full-time Orthopedic Sports Surgeon and member of the Musculoskeletal Service Line at Intermountain Health, you will join a collaborative team of physicians, advanced practice providers, athletic trainers, and healthcare professionals committed to delivering high quality orthopedic and sports medicine care throughout Southern Utah.

This physician will be employed by the Intermountain Medical Group and will practice within a growing, well-established orthopedic program that emphasizes patient-centered care, subspecialized orthopedic excellence, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

In addition to clinical and surgical responsibilities, this physician will serve as a Team Physician for Southern Utah University athletics, providing a unique opportunity to practice at the Division I collegiate level. The selected candidate will participate in comprehensive athletic coverage for university athletics, including sideline and event coverage responsibilities, while also supporting regional high school athletic programs throughout Southwest Utah.

This position offers direct access to advanced diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation services, athletic training resources, and a dedicated multidisciplinary support team. The role is supported by strong musculoskeletal service line leadership and collaborative partnerships across the health system, all within the stability and innovation of an integrated healthcare organization.

About This Role

  • Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance available, if applicable

  • Practice locations include Cedar City Hospital and Southern Utah Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic

  • Mix of operative and clinic-based general orthopedic and sports medicine surgical practice

  • Anticipated schedule includes at least two clinic days per week with dedicated office space and two dedicated operative days per week

  • Participation in patient-preferred access hours and limited regional community travel throughout Southwest Utah may be required

  • Orthopedic trauma call participation of 1:3 with APP-supported call structure

  • Additional compensation provided for call responsibilities

  • Opportunity for participation and potential buy-in with local ambulatory surgery center infrastructure

  • Strong referral base with integrated sports medicine and musculoskeletal service line support

  • Targeted start date of late summer 2028, with flexibility based on candidate availability and earlier start opportunities potentially available

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery and fellowship trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in collegiate athletics, team physician coverage, and comprehensive management of operative and non-operative sports-related injuries.

What you’ll bring

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, or equivalent if education was completed outside the United States

  • Completion of graduate fellowship medical education training program in Orthopedic Surgery

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Surgery Residency and an accredited fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine

  • Active medical licensure, or ability to obtain licensure, in the state of Utah

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers

  • DEA registration schedules II-V

  • Ability to successfully complete Intermountain Health credentialing requirements
