We’ve developed a unique hospitalist program that is independently staffed by three full-time NPs. They work a 1 week on, 2 weeks off rotation. During their week on, they are in-house during business hours and on pager call at all other times for a seven day period. Supervision is provided by collaborating primary care physicians on a 1:5 rotation.
The collaborating physician on for the week takes back-up calls from the hospitalists. In addition, they meet once daily with the hospitalists to review inpatient census. The program is supported by 24/7 Utilization Review nurses that assist with admissions.
In addition, the selected candidate will be asked to provide medical director leadership for this program (with separate compensation structure).
There are no call responsibilities beyond this associated with this position. General surgeons and CRNA team provide procedural coverage. This innovative new approach to hospitalist care has proven to be a perfect fit for small rural facilities.
