Southern Illinois Healthcare seeks Pathologist

 

Southern Illinois Healthcare provides pathology services to its three hospitals, one major clinic, several outlying rural clinics and has a cancer center affiliation.  SIH is looking for a Pathologist to join our growing hospital based pathology practice.

 

This opportunity will provide a pathologist with opportunities in various types of pathology in a CAP/AABB approved hospital.  Annual volumes are increasing and currently: 4,000 non-gyn cytology cases (including FNA, EBUS and EUS cases), 13,000 surgical cases (ranging the gamut from biopsies to complex oncologic resections), 1,100 peripheral blood smears, 150 bone marrows and 2 adult autopsies. A Pap smear program is currently being developed, and volumes are unknown. Call is on a rotational basis and generally calls are light (currently every 4th week). Clinical pathology is covered by all pathologists and knowledge of clinical issues and clinical troubleshooting is required.

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

 

  • BC in AP/CP pathology and BE/BC in a subspecialty (if applicable)

  • Preferred but not required:

 

    • 3-5 years in practice signing out complex cancer cases utilizing CAP cancer checklists, molecular studies and personalized medicine metrics.
    • Comfortable with bone marrow evaluations including those of MDS/MPD.
    • The candidate would preferably have strong diagnostic skills in hepatology and soft tissue.
