VCU Health’s Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA, is seeking a general cardiologist to join our cardiac team! The ideal candidate will be an experienced general cardiologist seeking a practice that will allow them to use the full spectrum of their clinical skills to serve the approximately 90,000 residents residing in the primary service area (Virginia’s Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, and Brunswick Counties), as well as a secondary service area extending into North Carolina. VCU Health’s Pauley Heart Center is one of the preeminent heart centers in the U.S., and the successful candidate will join a team dedicated to both academic discovery and outstanding clinical care for its patients.
This position presents a cardiologist with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on local communities, while also leveraging the myriad resources available within an academic health system—that is, VCU Health, based in Richmond, Virginia. South Hill is located about 80 miles south-west of Richmond, and in 2014, the town’s longstanding Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) merged with VCU Health. In 2017, VCU Health CMH moved into a brand-new replacement facility with 70 patient beds and an adjacent long-term care facility with an additional 140 beds. The Pauley Heart Center at VCU Health CMH provides the most advanced cardiac care in the region.

VCU Health CMH is a state of the art facility, opened in 2017, which includes the opening of a labor and delivery unit. CMH also provides a wide array of in-patient services, including acute care and long-term care along with many outpatient programs such as home health, hospice and many others. Since our inception, we have grown to be one of the area’s largest employers with approximately 800 employees, 200+ volunteers and 85 physicians, representing 30 medical specialties, on staff.
The new 166,700 square foot technologically-advanced facility features 70 private patient rooms and baths, including 10 intensive-coronary care rooms, four LDRP’s (single room obstetrical care) and bariatric rooms that are specially equipped with ceiling mounted lifts to ensure patient and staff safety.
The facility includes three operating room suites, a cesarean section suite, and a 16 bay emergency department.
The hospital has a permanent cardiac catheterization lab to provide the most advanced cardiac care in the region and a full complement of diagnostic services including MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, cardiac, vascular and pulmonary studies. With the new hospital, obstetrics also return to the region.
