The Sleep Medicine Physician may be responsible for:
The sleep specialist is a specialty care physician who is board certified or board eligible in Sleep Medicine. The sleep physician will be involved in daily operations of the VA Sierra Nevada Medical Center's Sleep Service, including sleep medicine clinics, sleep laboratory program, home sleep program, and sleep telehealth program. The full-time sleep physician provides initial evaluation and management for patients with the full spectrum of sleep disorders in-person and via clinical video telemedicine, performs interpretation of diagnostic/therapeutic In-Lab polysomnographic studies, Home Sleep polysomnographic studies, sleep consult management, and other additional duties based on Sleep Service needs. The sleep physician is responsible for assisting the team in the development of an organized approach to sleep disorders, sleep quality improvement initiatives and in the implementation of evidence-based medicine and best practices, thereby resulting in improved patient outcome at decreased cost. The sleep physician will be encouraged to participate in clinical sleep education as part of the VA mission.
VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) provides inpatient and outpatient care to a large geographical area that includes 20 counties in northern Nevada and northeastern California. The Reno campus is the site of the Ioannis A. Lougaris VA Medical Center, which operates 64 hospital beds and 60 Community Living Center (CLC) beds. VASNHCS also manages community-based outpatient clinics in Auburn and Susanville, CA, and Carson Valley, Lahontan Valley, Fallon, and Winnemucca, NV. VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System provides health care to approximately 120,000 veterans.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

The Reno campus operates 64 hospital beds, 60 Community Living Center beds, 14 ED beds, 12 ICU beds and 14 inpatient psych beds, in addition to four Community Based Outpatient Clinics and one rural outreach clinic. Academic affiliations for VASNHCS are the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine and the East Bay Surgical Program at the University of California, San Francisco. Approximately 45 medical, surgical, and psychiatry residents rotate annually through VASNHCS. Reno VA has 4 surgical suites in addition to cystoscopy and urology anesthesia suites. Approximately 50-55 cases per week are performed in orthopedics, general, ENT, urology, vascular, thoracic and GYN surgical specialties/subspecialties.
