The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine is seeking to hire a Health Psychologist to join our growing multidisciplinary team. Specifically, we encourage you to apply if you have interest and training in areas such as, obesity medicine, binge eating disorder, and bariatric surgery evaluations.

Clinical responsibilities for this faculty position will include providing assessments and evidence-based interventions (individual, group, couple) to address the psychological factors associated with obesity and binge eating disorder. The ideal candidate will also play a crucial role in providing comprehensive psychological assessments, and support to patients who are considering bariatric surgery or utilizing medications. The candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team and facilitate patients' emotional well-being throughout their weight loss journey. Role may include clinical work in any of the Metabolic and Surgery Clinic sites (e.g., Alamance Co, Durham, Raleigh). Involvement in the development of collaborative care services with other obesity treatment/eating disorders providers within the Duke Health System will also be part of this position. Part of the clinical effort might also involve other areas of health psychology within Duke Health, such as the Gastroenterology Clinic and the Chronic Pain Program and Biofeedback Services.   

Qualified applicants will have a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program and have completed an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship program. Preferred applicants will have (a) pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training in health psychology, including experience working in a multidisciplinary model, (b) extensive training in use of the empirically supported interventions and principles of behavior change, (c) training in brief behavioral interventions (e.g., motivational interviewing), and contemporary cognitive behavioral therapies emphasizing acceptance and mindfulness.
