Job Summary:

General Internal Medicine Position with Abbott Northwestern General Medicine Associates (ANGMA) and Abbott Northwestern Internal Medicine Residency Faculty Physicians. Our attending physicians supervise team-based inpatient and outpatient care in the setting of medical education, working with residents and medical students. Inpatient care occurs at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, a 600 + bed quaternary center in South Minneapolis. Ambulatory care occurs on the Abbott Northwestern campus where our attending providers supervise the residency continuity clinic, serving approximately 2000 members of the local community. The clinic specializes in complex internal medicine including significant international medicine. The Abbott Northwestern Residency trains 33 residents in general internal medicine, 11 resident per class.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care
    • Provides direct patient care for internal medicine patients.
    • Reviews patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
    • Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.
    • Provides education, consultation, or intervention to patients and their families.
    • Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.
    • Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy, and legal responsibilities.
    • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
    • Charts in electronic format in accordance with licensure and scope.
    • Provides care in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
    • Participates in ANGMA on-call rotation.
  • Teaching
    • Supervises and teaches residents and medical students in the ambulatory and inpatient environments.
    • Promotes and participates in the educational programs of the residency, including didactic presentations, case discussions and procedural training.
    • Serves as a faculty advisor and mentor for residents.
    • Provides constructive, actionable formative and summative feedback to residents in verbal and written form.
  • Curricular Leadership and Scholarship
    • Serves as a content leader for designated area(s) of the residency program curriculum.
    • Participates in scholarly activity as defined by the ACGME

Job Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine required and
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited Residency training program in Internal Medicine required and
  • Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire and
  • Board certification or Board Eligibility within Internal Medicine upon hire required and
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate upon hire required and
  • Prescription Monitoring Program upon hire required and
  • National Provider Identifier upon hire required
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in internal medicine preferred
  • Previous experience in medical education preferred
