Laredo’s first hospital, Laredo Medical Center (originally Mercy Health Center) has continued to build on an over 120 year tradition of caring for the community. The largest hospital employer in Webb County, it has been part of Community Health Systems since 2003. Laredo Medical Center continues its full Cycle IV Accreditation with PCI from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC) — the only hospital in Laredo with this level of accreditation. It is also credited as being the first hospital in Laredo to establish an open heart program, and the first to achieve the Center of Excellence designation for its Bariatric Program.

Laredo is located on the Rio Grande in southwestern Webb County in South Texas, about 150 miles southwest of San Antonio and 135 miles west of Corpus Christi. This cosmopolitan city is a major port of entry for international trade and tourism between the United States and Mexico.
