Family Medicine Physician: San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC)
Position Qualification/Requirements:
o Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
o Education: Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
o Certification: Board eligible or board certified
o Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program (corresponding to the specialty required in the TO) which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association. Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training
o Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instruction.
o Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine
Specific Duties:
o Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.
o Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.
o Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
o Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
o Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
o Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.
o Act within the standards of conduct and perform by the rules and regulations of the State Board in the state they are licensed.
o Exercise professional judgment in the day-to-day performance of the contract.
o The contract physician will maintain proper medical records on all patients treated under this contract in accordance with AR 40-66, to include appropriate CPT/ICD coding, and administrative closure of patient records within 72 business hours.
o Provide definite medical care to each patient as appropriate to the diagnosed condition, to include review of results of all ancillary diagnostic tests ordered for the patient.
o Follow up of abnormal ancillary test reports to assure correct medical follow up and treatment of patients. All reports shall be reviewed within 3 work days of their receipt by the contract provider.
.o Attend and treat patients in priority as established by medical triage or assigned by the given clinic.
o Provide necessary emergency care and stabilization to patients presenting themselves to the assigned clinic for medical care.
o Prepare appropriate patient profile. Prepare and document appropriate patient history, physical examinations, and preoperative diagnosis.
o Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the contract. Ensure all documentation and reports are legible and accurate.
o Consult with other hospital staff specialties as appropriate to determine referral priorities of patients whose conditions are diagnosed as beyond the capabilities of the healthcare provider, thoroughly documenting the patient's condition, history and reason for referral.
o Provide professional advice to clinic personnel and hospital ward personnel with regard to professional management of patients.
o Adhere to the Centers for Disease Control guidelines and the SAMMC Infection Control Program concerning universal precautions at all times while providing services under this contract.
