The Southeast is comprised of Sitka and Juneau and other smaller surrounding towns. Sitka is home to about 9,000 residents. Sitka offers beautiful hiking trails that starts in the city and ends high up in the mountains. Sitka is also a big fishing community which offers great fishing in the summer as well as hunting. Since Sitka was the first village the Russians attacked there are Russian history all over the town.

Juneau is the only state capital in the United States that you can only reach it by airplane or boat. The waterfront of Juneau is busy with cruise ships, fishing boats and floatplanes coming in and out. The state capital building is just walking distance from the cruise ships that come into town. Some of the activities available to individuals in Juneau are whale watching, hiking on the amazing trails with beautiful views, fishing and hunting, and much more.

Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC)

SEARHC is a non-profit tribal health consortium of 18 Native communities which serves the health interests of the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and other Native people of Southeast Alaska. We are one of the oldest and largest Native-run organizations in the nation.

SEARHC was established in 1975 under the provisions of the Indian Self-Determination Act. The intent of this legislation was to have Indian health Service programs and facilities turned over to tribal management. Our contracting with IHS began in 1976 when we took over management of the Community Health Aides Program. In 1982, we took over operation of the IHS Juneau clinic and in 1986 we took over operation of Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.

Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital (MEH) provides 27-bed acute care, critical care, obstetrics, surgery, perioperative and inpatient mental health care to the community. MEH is open to everyone in Sitka and Southeast Alaska. There are approximately 24 providers and an average daily inpatient census of 24 patients. The hospital serves as a regional referral center for people throughout Southeast Alaska, and also provides primary outpatient care.
