Memorial Hospital of Carbondale

Memorial Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center and serves as the area’s regional referral center. Memorial specializes in obstetrics and tertiary services such as vascular, neurology, oncology and cardiology. Other features include:

• Accredited Chest Pain Center and is the hub for the Prairie STAT Heart/STEMI program

Herrin Hospital

Herrin Hospital lies about ten miles to the east of Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. It serves as our system’s center for Rehabilitation Services, Bariatric Surgery, and the Bone and Joint Institute for the system. Other features include:

• Accredited Chest Pain Center with Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants

St. Joseph Memorial Hospital

Purchased in 1995 from the ASC Health System, St. Joseph is the only Catholic facility in the Southern Illinois Healthcare family. A 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Murphysboro, St. Joseph's features include:

• 9,000 ED encounters annually
• Prairie STAT Heart activated hospital for rapid transfer of STEMI patients
• Accredited sleep center with locations at the hospital and in Marion
• Outpatient geriatric psych program
• CT, MRI, bone density testing and ACR-certified ultrasound services
• Certified cardio-pulmonary outpatient rehabilitation
• Infusion Center
• Wound Center with hyperbaric chambers

About Carbondale, Il

You will be living in beautiful southern Illinois, a hidden treasure in America’s heartland. Home of Southern Illinois University
SIU, located in Carbondale, is a public research university, with a medical school, law school and business school. The Southern Illinois Salukis participate at the Division I level of intercollegiate athletics. SIU also offers a full schedule of theater, live music, opera and other events at historic Shryock Auditorium and modern McLeod Theater. Students come from all 50 states, and from over 100 countries. SIU is ranked in the top 5% of all US higher education institutions for research.

Additional Information
John A. Logan Community College is just 10 miles from SIU and currently has the lowest in-district tuition and mandatory fees rates in the state. It also offers many educational and cultural activities for the community.
