Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System (SBHS) has been providing mental health treatment to the Chicagoland community and the state of Illinois since 1991. We are dedicated to offering services to meet the ever-changing emotional and behavioral healthcare needs of children, adolescents, and their families.

We have the unique designation of being the first free-standing child and adolescent behavioral healthcare facility in the state of Illinois. Our sole focus on child and adolescent mental healthcare allows us to provide a full continuum of care, including:

Treatment Philosophy

Treatment is individualized. Our team approach helps strengthen individual’s social skills and interpersonal relationships by utilizing their existing emotional, behavioral and social resources in conjunction with environmental resources at home and school. Behavioral management techniques are a key treatment component. Positive reinforcements help build self-esteem and increase healthy behaviors while addressing limit setting and self-discipline. We look at the whole person, including their family and unique life situation.

Continuum of Care Facts

• Illinois’ first exclusive and largest free-standing behavioral health system for children and adolescents
• 120 licensed inpatient beds, increasing to 162 beds in early summer 2009
• 105 licensed residential beds
• In 2008 approximately 3,000 individuals received services throughout our system of care
• Over 150 hospitals and community providers regularly refer their patients with the highest needs to us for more intensive care
• We serve as a child and adolescent behavioral healthcare training ground for the University of Illinois at Chicago and Midwestern University
