*Position Purpose:*
The Operating Room RN provides expert professional nursing care for the patient during the OR course. The RN demonstrates a leadership role with continued competence in assessment, treatment and caring for patients. The RN is dedicated to providing safe, quality care in a compassionate and efficient manner.
*Position Requirements*
Unencumbered active RN License in the state of operation.
Minimum of 2 years OR experience; ambulatory surgery center experience preferred, orthopedic preferred.
BLS and ACLS Certifications required.
Able to communicate effectively, and have an ability to work compatibly with all physicians and staff.
Must be able to speak, read and write English.
Possesses strong organizational skills and a clear understanding of the importance of efficiency and cost effectiveness in an ambulatory surgery center.
Knowledge and clinical skills to perform the job duties of an OR Circulator RN.
A strong knowledge of aseptic technique, anesthetic agents and complications, and the ability to handle emergency situations.
Must have an aptitude for understanding, use of, and troubleshooting machines and equipment.
Experience with Orthopedic procedures (specifically total joints) a plus.
Ability to scrub cases a plus.
*SKILLS & ABILITIES:*
Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care.
Ability to set priorities.
Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency on the unit.
Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc.
Ability to demonstrate flexibility with assignments and schedule.
*Job Knowledge *
Assesses, plans, evaluates and ensures the implementation of the patient's critical pathway to achieve identified outcomes.
Assesses patient status from pre op admission notes and calls and on an ongoing basis.
Implements appropriate standards of care based on assessment data and patient's own goals.
Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes during the procedure and prior to transfer to PACU and ultimately discharge.
Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.
Adheres to all surgery center policies and procedures when providing patient care.
Utilizes AORN nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.
Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations.
Evaluates patient's progress toward outcome achievement on an ongoing basis.
Revises plan of care based on change in patient status and/or information from pre-op, anesthesia, or surgeon's offices.
*ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:*
Indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, blood, and body fluids that may carry infections, infectious diseases, and chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*
Good visual acuity, accurate color vision. Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape. Ability to speak and hear.
