*Overview*
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Dental Hygienist to join our dynamic dental team. We are looking for the projected dates of 12/15/25 through 4/1/26 to fill in for a maternity leave. The ideal candidate will have a passion for patient care and a commitment to providing high-quality dental hygiene services. This role involves working closely with patients to educate them on oral health, perform dental cleanings, and assist the dental team in delivering comprehensive care. Experience with both general and pediatric patient management and familiarity with various dental software systems such as Dentrix is highly desirable.

* Update patient's medical histories, record blood pressure, uncover any new conditions, etc.
* Perform a comprehensive periodontal evaluation including probe depths, bleeding points, recession, mobility, furcation, etc. Chart any progress/decline and advise the patient
* Perform oral prophylaxis, polish and educate patients on home care instructions
* Perform periodontal treatment on all patients requiring the same as identified in the "Standards of Care"
* Discuss any unfinished treatment with patients, and use visual tools and verbal skills to educate and motivate them
* Summarize what you are finding to the patient and educate them on the next steps the Doctor will likely recommend. Uncover any issues or concerns a patient may have and alert the appropriate person (e.g., Financial-Treatment Coordinator).
* Advise the Doctor when a patient is ready for exam. Inform the Doctor of the patient's periodontal score, what was completed during the visit, any unfinished treatments, recall intervals and any medical/personal concerns the patient may have. Include their Personal Motivators" as appropriate
* Schedule patients for a future continuing care appointment, emphasizing the need for continuous care and the recommended next appointment interval
* When available, assist in the cleanup and setup of treatment rooms
* Sharpen hygiene instruments and make recommendations when pieces need replacing/reordering.
* Use intraoral camera on all patients to highlight problems/concerns/issues (or how healthy they are)
* Assist in identifying treatment required for patients, and monitor the results

*Patient Management*

* Work with administrative team to schedule hygiene patients with efficiency
* Carefully review patient health and dental history forms and update as necessary
* Accurately chart each patient's periodontal health
* Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis to patients
* Perform scaling; root planing, and selective polishing for selective patients
* Administer local infiltration and block anesthesia as necessary for hygiene and or restorative patients if requested by the doctor.
* Provide radiographs for patients as prescribed by dentist
* Apply cavity-preventative agents such as fluorides and sealants
* Perform intraoral and extraoral head and neck examinations
* Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way
* Check on patient comfort during treatment; help allay patient anxiety
* Take and record accurate notes on the provided treatment
* Teach proper oral hygiene techniques to patients
* Counsel patients on proper nutrition and oral health

*Treatment Room Management and Sterilization*

* Check hygiene room for cleanliness; make necessary changes
* Check and turn on hygiene room equipment
* Clean hygiene room at the end of the day; turn off equipment
* Maintain a supply inventory for hygiene treatment
* Review, select, and submit orders for patient education materials for the practice
* Submit supply orders to supply coordinator once a month or as necessary
* Discard properly all disposable items from each visit
* Assemble soiled instruments and place in sterilization area
* Clean treatment room surfaces with disinfectant solution
* Pre-soak soiled instruments in a disinfectant
* Sort and package instruments by tray for proper sterilization
* Load, activate, and vent the sterilization unit according to manufacturer's directions
* Store instruments and trays in appropriate places

*Records Management*

* See that records are securely stored and handled in compliance with legal requirements, including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations if applicable
* Accurately record medical and dental histories
* Accurately file patient information

*Office Participation*

* Be an active participant in team meetings
* Promote team concept by interacting with others in the office

*PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS*

*Education/Experience*

* Must be licensed to practice in state and meet other applicable state requirements
* Must be licensed to administer infiltration and block anesthesia
* Must have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary education from an accredited dental hygiene program
* Experience providing scaling/root planing, adult/child prophylaxis and taking X-rays
* Legible handwriting for notations to patients and team members

*Interpersonal*

* Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, and coworkers

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $50.00 - $58.00 per hour

Expected hours: 28 - 30 per week
