SCEMS is a third service, government-based 911 EMS system that serves approximately 60,000 citizens and visitors within 418 square miles of Sandusky County. On average,
SCEMS responds to approximately 8,000 incidents per year. SCEMS covers a diverse response area, urban and rural EMS. A combination of twenty (20) interstates, major US highways, and state routes converge in Sandusky County. Additionally, SCEMS provides mutual aid services to surrounding areas, occasionally emergent transfers, public assistance, and community outreach.
SCEMS operates out of five (5) stations. Each station houses one (1) Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance that answer 911 calls within a designated territory of Sandusky County. SCEMS Headquarters houses an ALS command vehicle that responds on high acuity incidents and provides EMS support. Further, headquarters is staffed with multiple command officers that staff ALS support vehicles. Additionally, SCEMS provides county and regional assets: bariatric equipment and ambulance, transport capable ATV, and a mass casualty/rehabilitation trailer.
SCEMS operates Type I and Type III ambulances equipped with Stryker Power Pro-2 Stretchers and Power Load systems. In addition, all units are equipped with Zoll X-Series cardiac monitors, AutoPulse mechanical CPR devices, Zoll Z-Vent Ventilators, Stryker Powered Stair Chairs, GlideScope 2 Video Laryngoscope, and Handtevy Pediatric Bags. SCEMS utilizes the Northeast Ohio Regional EMS Protocols, with an active onsite medical director.
SCEMS is proud to offer employee-focused management, progressive protocols, state-of the art equipment, overtime opportunities, and career ladder that includes both educational and pay incentives.
