Our in-house accredited pharmacy supports our mission by providing specialized compounding services to our on-premise infusion center to meet the unique needs of our patients, including sterile processing.
*Position Summary*
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented *Lead* *Compounding Pharmacist* to join our clinical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing customized compounded medications, ensuring quality assurance, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting the infectious disease team in optimizing therapeutic outcomes. Retail pharmacist need not apply as we need someone with years of hospital setting experience in compounding. This role offers a unique opportunity to practice at the intersection of pharmacy and clinical care within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Prepare and dispense compounded sterile medications in accordance with USP <797> standards.
* Collaborate with infectious disease physicians and infusion staff to tailor pharmacologic therapies for infusion center and home-based patients.
* Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations as well as accreditation standards.
* Oversee quality control processes including documentation, labeling, sterility testing, and stability verification.
* Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and participate in audits/inspections.
* Supervise and train pharmacy technicians involved in compounding activities.
* Monitor inventory of compounding ingredients and supplies to ensure continuous workflow.
* Participate in clinical discussions related to antimicrobial stewardship and medication management.
* Receives, reviews and verifies all new infusion orders.
* Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessments (appropriate antibiotic usage based on cultures, med reconciliation, adherence potential drug side effects/interactions).
* Program infusion control devices, as necessary.
* Prepare IV admixtures, as necessary.
*Qualifications*
* Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
* Valid and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of Georgia.
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in compounding pharmacy setting; COMPOUNDING EXPERIENCE is a MUST, infusion therapy in hospital, home care or ambulatory experience preferred.
* Strong knowledge of USP <797> and aseptic technique.
* Experience working in or with an accredited pharmacy.
* Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
* Certification in sterile compounding is preferred.
* Able to solve problems and supervise technical support.
* Familiar with dosing antibiotics and following ABX levels.
* Ability to work with other health care personnel to provide safe and effective drug therapy.
* Comfortable with pharmacy software systems and willing to implement new systems when required.
* Understands billing, reimbursements and payer implications for pharmacy products and services.
