Ranked a Best Children’s Hospital by US News and World Report, Akron Children's Hospital is the largest pediatric healthcare system in Northeast Ohio, providing more than 1 million patient encounters each year. It is centered around two free-standing pediatric hospitals, regional health centers, and 50+ primary care and subspecialty locations. Children aren’t just a segment of our focus, they are our focus. The services at Akron Children’s Hospital span the entire scope of medical services available today – from routine and preventative care to emerging technologies in surgery and patient care. Akron Children’s Hospital is the only freestanding pediatric hospital in Northeast Ohio and the 8th largest children’s hospital in the country. We are a major teaching affiliate of Northeast Ohio Medical University. Active involvement in medical student and resident education; academic appointment at Northeast Ohio Medical University is available and commensurate with experience. Akron Children’s is dedicated to family-centered care, and improving the treatment of childhood illness and injury through research at the Rebecca D. Considine Clinical Research Institute.

Close to major metropolitan areas, physicians can enjoy quality of life in a safe, comfortable community to raise a family. New Philadelphia is the largest city in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. It is located approximately 70 miles south of Cleveland on the Tuscarawas River. With a population of just over 20,000 people, the city boasts a strong infrastructure while maintaining its small-town charm. New Philadelphia is adjacent to the city of Dover, which is almost the same size. The two cities are considered to be twin cities. The community offers a blend of the traditional and modern, punctuated by an extensive system of parks, lakes, cultural activities and recreational facilities.

The new Performing Arts Center at Kent State University Tuscarawas in New Philadelphia is a contemporary 1100-seat theater featuring national tours of hit Broadway musical and dramatic stage productions, musical performers, comedians, and children's productions. The PAC is home to the excellent Tuscarawas County Philharmonic Orchestra. We are home to "Trumpet in the Land", Ohio's official outdoor drama, a community theater group, and artists and lecture series at KSU Tuscarawas.

Sports are a way of life in our region with many private and public golf courses as well as numerous lakes for fishing, boating and sailing. Not far from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, we also offer many sports opportunities for youth as well as adults including basketball, baseball, soccer, football, swimming, tennis and more.

Runners, hikers, bikers and families who like to explore have plenty of options including the recreation of the Towpath Trail. Where mules and barges once maintained the area's commerce, the 110-mile trail from Cleveland to New Philadelphia offers places of tranquility, hidden views of wildlife, and artifacts of the original settlers.

Set in the picturesque, rolling hills of eastern Ohio, our region is home to a large Amish community relying on horse-and-buggy travel. By contrast, our interstate highways put us minutes from major airports and the rich cultural benefits of Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Akron. Our local airport regularly accommodates many private jets.
