*Summary*

Our clinic operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. We are open to hiring Full-time, Part-time or Relief (variable/not regularly scheduled) work schedules.

The RVT is a key role in the Nine Lives medical team. They will work in our High-Quality, High-Volume, Spay/Neuter clinic assisting with prepping cats for surgery, monitoring cats post-surgery, and other activities. They will also assist with other surgeries and interventions such as amputations, enucleations, exploratory surgeries, dentals, X-Rays etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Receive, handle and treat cats with skill, compassion and care
* Prep cats for spay/neuter surgery and assist with post-surgical monitoring
* Assist with dentals and other interventions
* Administer anesthesia
* Calculate drug dosages, dispense and administer medications, vaccines, fluids and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians
* Obtain and record patient histories
* Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests
* Provide nursing care for injured or ill cats
* Work with veterinarians to write up treatment plans for sick cats; administer daily treatments
* Gain/maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, and flea products
* Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies
* Maintain patient records in clinic and shelter management software (Clinic HQ and ShelterLuv)
* Clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

* 2+ years experience as a veterinary assistant or RVT required
* RVT license required
* Must be willing to obtain CA controlled substance license
* Experience in high-volume surgery preferred but not required
* Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
* Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment (we do up to 50 spay/neuter surgeries per day!)
* Strong communication and client service skills; ability to work with clients and patients in a professional, friendly, tactful manner
* Must love cats!

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

* Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity
* Physical requirements include frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. Subject to kneeling, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking to perform the essential functions
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive patients; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal waste; possible exposure to contagious diseases.
