CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline overlooking Corpus Christi Bay is the largest and foremost acute care medical facility in the region, with a full range of diagnostic and surgical specialty services in cardiac, cancer, and stroke care. Summary:
Responsible for applying and removing plaster or fiberglass casts on patients with fractures, sprains or torn muscles; maintaining cast working area; assisting the supervising physician or nurse as needed; and assisting with surgical procedures and with admitting and screening patients.
Responsibilities:
Applying and removing and/or assisting with casts, splints and dressings as ordered by the physician.
Removing staples, sutures, external fixation devices as ordered by the physician.
Collecting or assisting with the collection of specimens, including venipuncture, C & S. Prepare specimens for processing as directed by physician.
Assisting physician with procedures as needed.
Preparing and fitting orthotics.
Instructing patients regarding care of casts, splints, dressings, etc.
Sterilizing instruments as needed.
Transport/transfer patients when required.
Follows the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Uses oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
Maintains established CHRISTUS Santa Rosa policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.

Requirements:
Education/Skills
High school diploma, or equivalent.
Knowledge of standard sterile techniques and principles/methods used in preparing, applying and removing casts
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with staff and patients and work productively and independently with minimal supervision
Experience working in a fast-paced clinic with a diverse population
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes
Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred
Pediatric experience, preferred
Experience
2 years of experience in a hospital, institution, nursing home or private practice setting which has included direct basic patient care
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Orthopedic Technologist certification, preferred
CPR certification
