Responsibilities

Ascension St. Vincent is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate acute care nurse practitioner or PA to join our dynamic team at Seton Specialty Hospital.  As an APP in our high acuity long-term acute care facility, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive and advanced care to critically ill patients requiring extended hospital stays.  This is a night shift position with hours from 7 PM to 7 AM.  This role has a weekend commitment every third weekend.

 

Responsibilities:

Admission history and physicals: 

  • Complete admission orders and medication reconciliation
  • Conduct thorough physical examination 
  • Write comprehensive H&P
  • Interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory results 
  • Formulate accurate diagnosis and differential diagnosis

 

Manage urgent and emergent situations:

  • Conduct physical exam
  • Order appropriate diagnostic testing
  • Initiate appropriate treatment plan based on differential diagnosis
  • Run RRT and codes
  • Complete written documentation for care provided

 

Medication management

  • Prescribe and manage medications, including complex drug regimens
  • Monitor for adverse drug reactions and adjust therapy as necessary

 

Procedural skills:

  • Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial line insertion, and chest tubes
  • Management of ventilator needs

 

Communication and collaboration:

  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and health care team members
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes

 

Education and counseling:

  • Educate patients and families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies
  • Provide emotional support and address patient and family concerns

 

Qualifications:

Experience: 

  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of similar experience.  Highly qualified individuals with critical care experience may be considered.

 

Clinical skills: 

  • Strong clinical skills including advanced assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic abilities, and procedural skills.  

 

Interpersonal:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

 

Critical thinking:

  • Ability to think critically, make sound clinical judgments, and adapt to rapidly changing situations.

 

Comparison: 

  • Genuine compassion and empathy for patients and families.

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required Credential(s):

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Nurse Practitioner specializing in Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Registered Nurse credentialed from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • Master's degree of Nursing required.
