KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership in Graduate Education

·         Provide oversight for all graduate programs, including master’s, doctoral (PhD, DNP), and certificate programs, ensuring curricula are inclusive, culturally responsive, and aligned with accrediting standards of all academic programs.

·         Promote equitable access to graduate education by developing recruitment and retention strategies that support underrepresented groups in nursing.

·         Collaborate with program directors and faculty to maintain accreditation standards, implement innovative, evidence-based teaching practices, and ensure diversity is integrated into learning outcomes.

·         Advance interprofessional education initiatives in collaboration with other academic health center disciplines, emphasizing culturally competent care.

·         Monitor and evaluate program outcomes with a focus on reducing disparities and addressing workforce needs in diverse communities.

·         Provide guidance on faculty career progression, including promotion and tenure processes, ensuring policies are equitable and transparent.

·         Collaborate with faculty to identify and address developmental needs, with an emphasis on supporting underrepresented faculty in achieving their professional goals.

Strategic Planning and Administration

·         Work with the Dean and leadership team to develop and implement the School’s strategic priorities.

·         Develop and manage budgets related to graduate programs and faculty development initiatives, ensuring resources are equitably allocated.

·         Engage in data-driven decision-making, leveraging metrics to address disparities and inform program improvements.

Research and Scholarship

·         Promote and support faculty and student engagement in research and scholarship.

·         Foster collaborations between faculty and graduate students to advance nursing science and practice.

·         Champion initiatives to secure funding for graduate education and research activities.

 

Qualifications

Required:

·         An earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field.

·         Eligibility for an appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor or Associate or Full Professor of Clinical Nursing.

·         A minimum of 5 years of experience in academic nursing leadership, including oversight of graduate programs.

·         A record of distinguished scholarly accomplishments, grant funding, and a record of national and international service.

·         Experience with faculty development and promotion/tenure processes, with a demonstrated commitment to equitable practices.

·         Expertise in curriculum development and alignment with accreditation standards, guidelines, and competencies.

·         Expertise in teaching master’s and doctoral level courses in residence, hybrid, and online platforms.

·         Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of New York.

Preferred:

·         Eligibility for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

·         Experience in an academic health center or interprofessional educational environment.

·         Proven leadership and organizational skills with a strong commitment to the strategic focus of the School of Nursing.

·         Familiarity with accreditation processes for graduate nursing programs.

·         A track record of successful grant writing and external funding acquisition.

 

Position Overview

The Associate Dean for Graduate Education provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for the graduate programs and faculty development within the School of Nursing. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean ensures the delivery of high-quality, innovative graduate education aligned with the mission of a premier R1 research university. This role ensures that graduate programs are academically rigorous, compliant with both accreditation and regulatory standards, and aligned with the strategic mission of the School of Nursing. The Associate Dean of Graduate Education provides leadership in curriculum innovation, ensures programs are adequately resourced, and guides the Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) to monitor and consistently achieve the highest academic quality. The Associate Dean for Graduate Education represents the School of Nursing within the university, the academic health center and with other internal and external stakeholders, advancing the School's reputation in nursing education in the region, nationally, and globally. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of excellence, advancing nursing science and education, and championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of graduate education and faculty affairs. As a member of the School’s senior leadership team, the Associate Dean for Graduate Education will collaborate closely with the Dean and the leadership team on policy-making, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of the School’s activities and assist in ensuring that the vision, mission, and values are foundational elements in guiding decision-making and actions within the School of Nursing.
