Job SummaryThe Cardiac Health Psychologist (CHP) works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide services to patients within the cardiology institute. The CHP will split their time between acute and ambulatory, depending on the need.
Some of the CHP's clinical responsibilities will be relatively predictable, and likely to increase as the program grows. These can include consultations for team members, "curbside" consults related to managing challenging patients, and crisis de-escalation.
The CHP, in addition to patient facing responsibilities, provides invaluable non-billable services that support the multidisciplinary team and cardiology patients. These can include assisting in addressing issues with team dynamics, strategizing for program growth and system issues, and clinical and emotional debriefing and support meetings after the dea t h of an LVAD patient. D uties include but are not limited to performing diagnostic evaluations and ongoing psychotherapy for heart failure patients, conducting pre- and post-psychological evaluations for LVAD patients, providing ongoing support for LVAD and advanced heart failure patients, and conducting annual emotional wellness visits with LVAD patients.

Qualifications- Education: PhD, PsyD or EdD in clinical or counseling from an accredited college or university; required.
- Experience: Minimum of one year professional experience under the direction of a licensed psychologist or board certified psychiatrist, required.
- Licensure/Certification: Valid license to practice Clinical Child psychology in North Carolina, required.
- Additional Skills Required: Knowledge of social service agencies, state regulations and APA standards as related to client treatment, patient rights and client/patient confidentiality.
- Additional Skills Preferred: Previous clinical responsibilities to include psychological testing, diagnosis, crisis intervention, brief individual and group psychological testing techniques, administration and interpretation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge, skills and abilities within multiple theoretical orientation. Patient centered focused. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team/medical setting.
