RWJBarnabas Health is excited to announce opportunities for Advanced Practice Providers to join our expanding Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. This 30-bed, high-acuity stepdown unit cares for adult patients who require comprehensive acute care and close monitoring. Our IMCU team works collaboratively with critical care intensivists, ICU hospitalists, and consultants across multiple specialties to deliver exceptional care for patients transitioning from the ICU or directly admitted from the ED, PACU, or inpatient units.

The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $101,400 to $200,000 per year.

Position Overview:

The IMCU APP is a core member of the care team, providing direct patient management in collaboration with attending physicians and fellow APPs. Responsibilities include performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostics, prescribing medications, performing approved procedures, managing consults, and coordinating care across services. Our APPs provide 24/7 coverage, with a robust onboarding and training program for both experienced providers and those new to practice. After 12–16 months, there may be opportunities for additional high-acuity ICU training. IMCU patients present with a variety of complex conditions, including diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, renal failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, oncologic/hematologic emergencies, electrolyte imbalances, hypertensive crises, ENT and neurological issues, and post-operative needs from intra-abdominal surgeries.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program with a focus in Adult Acute Care (ACNP or AGACNP), OR graduate of an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current New Jersey APN or PA license; RN license (if APN)
  • Adult critical care experience preferred
  • CCRN preferred
  • ENLS certification (required within first 3 months of employment)
  • Experience with ultrasound IV and point-of-care ultrasound preferred
  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and teaching skills

The Breast Center at the Ambulatory Care Center — one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive breast diagnostic centers — performs close to 50,000 procedures annually with coordinated care and patient navigation to the medical and surgical expertise and services available through CBMC. The Breast Center now has a dedicated MRI enhancing the continuum of care for patients.

CBMC is accredited by The Joint Commission and the American Medical Association Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The medical center is a major teaching affiliate of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. The medical staff representing 100 medical and surgical specialty and subspecialty services, shares medical expertise with medical students, residents and fellows.
