Job Description

Opportunity Information:

Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG) is seeking a full-time, non-interventional Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician with expertise in Acute Care Consults. This physician will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team practicing evidence-based medicine in the management of spinal conditions. The team will include clinicians from multiple disciplines: Physical Medicine, Interventional Pain management, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and physical therapy.

We are seeking a clinician with strong skills in evaluating and managing spinal disorders. Fellowship training or prior clinical experience in this area is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent collaboration skills, contribute clinical expertise, and help shape spine care protocols. While leadership qualities are welcomed, this role is not intended as a managerial or administrative position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of patients with diverse disabling diagnoses including medically complex cases, acquired brain injuries including stroke, trauma including spinal injuries. Comprehensive assessments will include the evaluation of impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions, and rehabilitation needs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Initiate and direct early rehabilitation interventions in the acute care setting, optimizing timing and intensity to promote recovery and prevent complications, while ensuring patient safety and readiness
  • Develop individualized rehabilitation plans, including recommendations for physical, occupational, and speech therapies as well as oversee the implementation and adjustment of these plans as patients progress.
  • Educate patients and families regarding prognosis, rehabilitation goals, and setting appropriate expectations. Provide counseling on discharge planning and post-acute care options.
  • Identify and assist in the management of medical complications within the purview of PM&R including those related to immobility, neurologic deficits, and trauma including pain, sleep dysfunction, spasticity management, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and secondary prevention of injuries.
  • Collaborate with acute care teams (including ICU, trauma, med surg) to provide evidence-based recommendations for rehabilitation, discharge planning, and long-term functional recovery.
  • Document all assessments, plans, and communications in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
  • Possess an active and unrestricted California Medical License
  • Current DEA license
  • Experience or subspecialized training in the areas of brain injury medicine and/or spinal cord injury is preferred.
  • Strong skills in interdisciplinary collaboration, communication and patient/family education are necessary.
