The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) leads and supports the clinical and procedural functions of their assigned business unit. This position provides oversight and guidance to a team of Advanced Practice Providers across multiple service lines, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
The Lead APP is an experienced nurse practitioner or physician assistant who practices in collaboration with physicians, following established protocols and clinical standards to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to all patients.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Care
- Assess and identify the health needs of a specialized patient population, and plan, implement, and evaluate interventions appropriate to those needs.
- Develop and perform necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to standardized protocols.
- Plan and facilitate the continuity of comprehensive care for specialty patient populations in interventional, neurointerventional, and vascular medicine.
- Perform and document comprehensive histories and physical examinations on assigned patients.
- Provide relevant patient education to promote understanding, engagement, and adherence to care plans.
- Make referrals as needed to other healthcare professionals and community resources to ensure coordinated patient care.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Collaborate with physicians in developing differential diagnoses and implementing appropriate management plans.
- Partner with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop and execute treatment plans tailored to patient needs.
- Interact in a positive, professional manner with patients, physicians, and staff to promote a respectful and efficient work environment.
- Assist in marketing efforts and the promotion of clinical services and practice growth.
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide oversight, orientation, and training to Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners across the practice.
- Assign responsibilities, evaluate performance, and serve as the first level of review for designated Advanced Practice Providers.
- Recommend candidates for hiring and assist management with performance and disciplinary matters as needed.
- Establish and maintain work schedules, including patient load assignments, and approve vacation and scheduled time off.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members to enhance individual and team performance.
Documentation, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Complete accurate billing information in accordance with compliance standards.
- Participate in quality assurance (QA) and performance improvement activities to support continuous improvement in care delivery.
Professional Development
- Seek out and participate in continuing education opportunities to maintain current knowledge and expertise in specialty practice.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the company’s mission and goals.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams while fostering positive relationships across departments and with patients.
- Comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations, and professional standards governing Advanced Practice Providers; ensures ongoing compliance with company policies and state requirements.
- Proficient in performing and assisting with interventional, neurointerventional, and vascular medicine procedures with appropriate credentialing.
- Skilled in clinical assessment, diagnosis, patient education, and care management for complex patient populations.
- Strong commitment to quality improvement, patient-centered care, and continuous professional development.
- Maintains required licensure, national certification, CPR/ACLS credentials, and adherence to Allied Health Professional insurance standards.
- Exemplifies professionalism through appearance, conduct, and service excellence, serving as a role model for peers and staff.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required.
- Current state licensure and national certification (NCCPA for PAs or applicable certification for NPs) required.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as an Advanced Practice Provider, preferably in interventional radiology, vascular medicine, or a related specialty.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical or procedural setting strongly preferred.
- Current CPR and ACLS certification (endorsed by the American Heart Association) required.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment with demonstrated ability to lead and mentor other providers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a clinical and office environment, requiring frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds. The role demands adherence to safety and infection control practices, including Universal Precautions. Normal vision and hearing (corrected if necessary) are required. Occasional irregular hours and stressful situations may occur based on patient and operational needs.
