Overview: 

  • The Advanced Practice Provider, Oncology (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is an integral member of the oncology care team, responsible for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to a diverse patient population.
  • The APP performs assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of patients with cancer and related conditions, in collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.
  • This position involves coordination of care across the continuum, including outpatient and inpatient and emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient education, and quality improvement.
  • Conducts comprehensive health assessments, including physical exams, history taking, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Formulates and implements treatment plans for oncology patients in collaboration with collaborating physicians and the care team.
  • Involved in lung cancer screening program, lung cancer clinic, and rapid diagnostic clinic.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests and imaging results.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of patients’ response to treatment and adjusts care plans as indicated.
  • Educates patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment options, side effects, and supportive care.
  • Participates in clinical rounds, tumor boards, and interdisciplinary care conferences.
  • Coordinates referrals and follow-up care to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, research efforts, and professional development activities.
  • Serves as a resource for staff education and supports the development of oncology care standards and protocols.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus.
  • Previous experience in oncology or hematology practice (outpatient or inpatient) is preferred.

  • Clinical base hourly pay range for this position: $55.20-$63.65. This is a salaried position.
    • Range shown should be used as an estimate and can be impacted by many factors including but not limited to the critical need of the position, overall experience and qualifications, community need, and other considerations. Additional compensation components may be applicable such as bonuses or incentives which may or may not be based on metric achievement.
