General Summary:
The PA or APRN under the supervision of the Physician, who acts as the collaborative practitioner, is responsible for:
- Performs physical examinations of patients; evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic urologic conditions within the hospital setting and practice
- Procedures to include, catheter replacement/removal, injections, ultrasounds, circumcisions
- Surgery first assist
- Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, etc.
- Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed
- Collaborates with physician and staff as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff
- Displays a caring and professional attitude at all times as well as maintaining personal and professional growth
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public.
- Strong communication skills
- Patient management and surgical first assist for pediatric general surgery patients.
- Collaborate with supervising physician, pediatric surgery team and staff to provide consistent patient care in the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings.
- Perform and document patient histories and physical exams.
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, Ultrasound etc.
- Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and implement care plans.
- Participate in daily inpatient rounds.
- Evaluate consultations in the emergency department and outpatient office.
- With appropriate training and supervision, perform bedside procedures such as newborn circumcision, extra digit excision, drainage of abscess, local wound care, ostomy and gastrostomy tube care.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public; Strong communication skills
- Ability to work flexible schedule including call rotation, nights, weekends for the general surgery team
- Ability to excel in clinic with highly acute patients
- Confident practice independently
Required Education/Experience:
- Master’s degree in Nursing (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) Studies
- 2-5 years of experience as a PA-C or APRN; Urology (preferred) and Pediatric Surgery
Licensure, Certification, and Registration:
- Current, valid Florida PA or APRN license
- Certification by NCCPA, ANCC or other nationally recognized certification organization
- BLS & ACLS
- Current, valid DEA license
