Position Overview
The University of Missouri, Department of Family & Community Medicine, is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Virtual Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to serve as a key clinical partner within a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary Virtual APP Clinic. This program is designed to expand access to timely, patient-centered, and evidence-based medical care through an innovative telehealth model integrated into the broader Ambulatory Care system.
The Virtual APP will provide high-quality virtual clinical services, contribute to program development, and collaborate closely with interprofessional teams to ensure seamless coordination of care. This role is part of a dynamic department committed to excellence, continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of respect and belonging. We value the strengths, perspectives, and experiences each team member brings, and we strongly encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver virtual patient care across the lifespan—pediatrics through geriatrics—including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up in alignment with clinical best practices, institutional standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide care for both acute and chronic conditions within the virtual care model, including patients with multiple comorbidities.
• Conduct post–Emergency Department virtual follow-up visits to address early concerns and reduce risk of avoidable complications or readmissions.
• Perform Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs) in collaboration with Registered Nurses (RNs) and other members of the care team.
• Conduct school-based virtual visits supporting rural school districts.
• Utilize approved telehealth technologies to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care delivery.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners across Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and other departments to support integrated care and program initiatives.
• Document all clinical encounters accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Participate in quality improvement efforts, workflow optimization, and program development initiatives that enhance virtual care operations and outcomes.
• Provide patient education related to preventive care, chronic disease management, treatment adherence, and care coordination.
• Support onboarding, training, and ongoing collaboration with clinical and administrative staff as the Virtual Care program continues to expand.
Additional Information
This position is fully remote following successful completion of the required orientation period, which includes 30 days and/or 100 hours of collaborator shadowing (whichever is completed last). No in-person responsibilities are required once training and onboarding are complete. Virtual participation in departmental and program meetings is required.
As the Virtual Care program evolves, duties may expand to include additional services, technological advancements, or cross-departmental initiatives. Ongoing professional development, training, and institutional support will be provided to ensure continued clinical excellence and program success.
