St. Peter's Health Partners Medical Associates is seeking an experienced Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant to join the Cardiac Surgery program at St. Peter’s Hospital located in Albany, New York.

Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistants function in a dynamic capacity within the surgical group. This role is full-time with weeknight and weekend call rotation.

Position Details:

  • Full-time position with rotating flexible shifts
  • Weeknight and weekend call rotation required
  • PAs provide 24/7 in-house service coverage, including rotating nights and weekends
  • Adult-only Cardiac Surgery practice
  • Procedural responsibilities include:
    • First assist on all open-heart cases (no vascular or thoracic cross-coverage)
    • Endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting
    • Arterial line placement
    • Chest tube placement
  • Clinical responsibilities include:
    • Daily rounds with the Cardiothoracic Surgery team
    • Management of post-operative patients in the ICU and step-down units
    • Preoperative consultations and day-before-surgery assessments
    • Admitting and managing transfers from outside facilities and the Emergency Department

Candidate Requirements:

Applicants should have the following:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • NCCPA Board Certification
  • New York State PA licensure
  • DEA registration
  • ACLS and BLS certification
  • 1–3 years of cardiac surgery first-assist experience preferred
    • Endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting experience strongly preferred
    • New graduates or candidates without direct cardiac surgery experience will be considered with relevant prior surgical experience
  • Strong clinical judgment, teamwork skills, and comfort in a fast-paced surgical environment

Recruitment Package:

St. Peter’s Health Partners offers a comprehensive salary and compensation package that includes:

  • Competitive base salary range $149,000 and $160,920 commensurate with experience
  • The posted salary reflects the starting range of total compensation and does not include productivity bonuses, incentives related to quality and performance, extra shift incentives, and other forms of cash compensation as applicable to the position. In addition, providers typically receive a CME allowance and other benefits offered by their medical group employer. Please note that this salary range is provided in accordance with State law and is subject to variation due to the factors noted above.
