Overview
This position will work as an Orthopedic provider on-site during weekday hours for the Children's Mercy Orthopedic Injury Clinic locations. APRNs will earn an $8 hourly differential for your flexibility and expertise across multiple locations.
The Orthopedic Injury Clinic provides rapid, convenient access for children and adolescents with minor musculoskeletal injuries. The Orthopedic Injury Clinic Advanced Practice Provider performs a problem-specific health assessment with a major focus on injuries such as fractures, muscle and ligament sprains/strains, minor dislocations, and sports-related injuries. Treatment pathways employed in this role include casting, splinting, bracing, and referral to rehabilitative services as well as follow-up care for the injury as needed. This APP will be expected to work collaboratively with the Orthopedic physician providers when consultation is needed, including surgical referral.
Advanced Practice Provider II (APP-II) provides proficient, comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. An APP II obtains a comprehensive health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care and treatment; prescribes/performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures; and participates in patient and family education. Each APP-II demonstrates professional leadership and participates in evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and/or research activities, and organizational development.

Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant — required
- Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) — preferred
- For Physician Assistants: 1–2 years of pediatric experience — required
- Exceptions may be considered based on relevant specialty experience
- For PNPs: 1–2 years of pediatric RN experience — preferred
- Exceptions may be considered based on relevant specialty experience
- PNP candidates not currently PNP-PC or PNP-AC must enroll in an approved program within 2 years and complete within 5 years
Licensure
All licenses must be obtained by the time of hire; not required at time of application.
- Missouri RN & APRN or PA license — required upon hire
- Kansas RN & APRN or PA license — required upon hire
- Active RN & APRN Compact License (for states outside MO & KS) — required upon hire
Certifications
- National board certification aligned with population and practice setting (per APRN Roles & Practice Setting policy) — required upon hire
- Completion of one of the following national certifications — required upon hire:
- Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP)
- Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Required APP life support certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS as appropriate) — required upon hire
- Specialty certification relevant to the unit’s patient population — preferred
