Job Description

This is a dual posting with job ID 59357. Only one position will be filled between both postings, depending on the qualifications of the final candidate.
 

Position Summary
The Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment is recruiting a Psychiatry Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join its growing clinical team. The Thompson Center is a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary center encompassing 15 distinct clinical subspecialties and is fully integrated with the institution’s academic training and research missions. The Center has recently moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility and continues to expand its clinical programming, including the development of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

This position provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and longitudinal treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental conditions. The APP works within an interdisciplinary team to address complex behavioral health needs, co-occurring psychiatric conditions, and psychopharmacologic management across developmental stages, using evidence-based and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care
•    Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and developmental evaluations for individuals with autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions
•    Diagnose and manage co-occurring psychiatric conditions, including ADHD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, psychotic disorders, sleep disorders, and trauma-related conditions
•    Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications with attention to developmental considerations, sensory sensitivities, medical comorbidities, and side-effect vulnerability
•    Develop individualized, strengths-based treatment plans incorporating patient, family, and caregiver goals
•    Provide ongoing medication management and behavioral consultation 
•    Deliver crisis assessment, safety planning, and risk management for behavioral or psychiatric escalation
•    Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnosis, treatment options, medication effects, and behavioral supports
•    Apply trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally responsive care principles
•    Contribute to referral triage, access optimization, and care pathway development for neurodevelopmental psychiatry services
•    Support education and training of clinical learners, staff, or community partners as appropriate
 

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
•    Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, developmental pediatricians, behavioral therapists (e.g., BCBA), social workers, and other healthcare professionals
•    Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and team-based treatment planning
•    Coordinate care with schools, community providers, and external agencies as appropriate
•    Support transitions across settings and developmental stages 
 

Master of Science in Nursing degree.
Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.  
Must be granted a “Document of Recognition” from the Missouri Board of Nursing.
