Position Overview

We are seeking a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team. This is a full-time, rotating schedule position in a high-acuity, collaborative academic environment.

New graduates with PICU RN experience are encouraged to apply.


About the PICU

Our Pediatric Critical Care Division includes both the PICU and Pediatric Cardiac ICU (PCICU) within a 19-bed, state-of-the-art facility providing advanced care for critically ill infants, children, and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive critical care management for pediatric patients with medical, cardiac, and surgical conditions
  • Perform assessments, procedures, and daily management in a high-acuity ICU setting
  • Collaborate with intensivists and multidisciplinary teams on treatment planning
  • Document care accurately in the EHR

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and support staff
  • Communicate effectively with patients’ families and caregivers
  • Participate in care coordination and discharge planning

Quality & Safety

  • Adhere to hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Report and address patient safety concerns proactively

Professional Engagement

  • Support education of staff and trainees
  • Participate in professional development, certification, and/or research activities
  • Maintain required clinical competencies and training

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care) or Physician Assistant program
  • Licensed in the State of Maryland (or eligible)
  • DEA and CDS eligible
  • Minimum of 1 year RN experience (PICU experience strongly preferred for new grads)
  • CPR certification; ACLS/BLS as required for inpatient practice
  • Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Prior PICU, ICU, or pediatric critical care experience
  • Certification in specialty area
  • Experience in academic or teaching environments

Work Environment

  • Rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • On-call responsibilities may be required
  • Exposure to infectious diseases; adherence to PPE and universal precautions required
