About the Opportunity

The University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus, a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) to serve as Manager, Clinical Program – Lung Transplant.

This is a unique opportunity to join a multidisciplinary academic transplant team within a community-based teaching hospital known for excellence in pulmonary and chronic disease management.

In this role, you will combine advanced clinical practice with program leadership, supporting high-quality, patient-centered care across the full lung transplant continuum.


Position Overview

The CRNP Manager of the Lung Transplant Program provides advanced practice clinical care and programmatic leadership for lung transplant patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.

This role partners closely with pulmonology, transplant surgery, critical care, and transplant coordination teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and program growth.


Clinical Responsibilities

Advanced Clinical Practice

  • Provide comprehensive care for lung transplant patients across the continuum (pre-, peri-, and post-transplant)
  • Perform detailed patient assessments, physical exams, and diagnostic evaluations
  • Order and interpret laboratory and imaging studies
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans in collaboration with transplant physicians
  • Manage immunosuppressive therapies and monitor for rejection, infection, and complications
  • Ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings

Program Leadership & Coordination

  • Serve as a clinical leader within the lung transplant program
  • Collaborate with pulmonology, thoracic surgery, and transplant coordination teams
  • Participate in transplant selection committees, case reviews, and care planning meetings
  • Support program development, operational workflows, and growth initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with UNOS, CMS, and institutional transplant regulations

Quality & Outcomes

  • Monitor transplant outcomes and support quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to data tracking, reporting, and performance metrics
  • Participate in regulatory readiness and accreditation activities
  • Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement

Education & Mentorship

  • Educate patients and families on transplant care and long-term management
  • Provide mentorship to APPs, nursing staff, and trainees
  • Contribute to clinical protocols, education initiatives, and program development

Qualifications

Required

  • Active CRNP licensure in Maryland (or eligibility)
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required
  • DEA registration (or eligibility)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Strong clinical experience in pulmonology, critical care, or transplant medicine

Preferred

  • Experience in lung transplant or advanced pulmonary disease management
  • Prior leadership, program coordination, or supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with UNOS and CMS transplant regulations
  • Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage complex, high-acuity patient populations
