Acute Care Surgery NP/PA Opportunity – New Grads Welcome

Memorial Health System is seeking a motivated NP/PA to join our Acute Care Surgery team. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates demonstrate a strong willingness to learn, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments including ED, hospital medicine, and surgical services. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive care for patients in the acute care surgery service
  • Assist in surgical procedures, inpatient management, and perioperative care
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, hospitalists, emergency department staff, nursing, and ancillary departments
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination
  • Respond to consults and support patient throughput
  • Document care accurately in the electronic medical record

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program
  • Active or eligible for Ohio licensure
  • Certification as FNP or PA-C
  • New graduates are strongly encouraged to apply

Details:

Acute Care Surgery (General Surgery/Trauma)

  • Rotating 12-hour night shift (8p-8a) to support Acute Care Surgery/Trauma or rotating 12-hour hybrid shift with mix of day and night shifts throughout the month.
    • ACS model = 365 days covered by 5 APPs, 2 day-shift, 2 night-shift and one hybrid
  • At least 12 shifts per month/146 shifts per year, rotating weekend and holiday coverage to ensure team fairness. Could include up to two weekends of coverage per month.
  • Shifts are coordinated among the ACS APP team members.
  • ATLS required to be completed prior to first shift. This can be coordinated with COTS. https://www.cotshealth.org/atls
  • The APP is expected to be a self-starter who works independently while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with the on-call surgeon and the multidisciplinary care team, demonstrating professionalism and adaptability when working with diverse personalities and clinical roles.
  • During each shift, the APP partners with the designated on?call surgeon to coordinate care for trauma and acute care surgery patients. This collaboration includes participation in trauma activations, surgical consults, operative planning, postoperative management, and emergent clinical decision-making. The APP maintains ongoing communication with the on?call surgeon regarding patient progression, complications, and disposition planning.
  • The APP is expected to recognize clinical situations that require immediate surgeon notification and to maintain clear, professional, and timely communication throughout the shift.
  • Escalation to the on-call surgeon is expected for operative decisions, hemodynamic instability, significant changes in condition, and other high-risk or time-sensitive situations in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Demonstrates resilience and professionalism by responding constructively to feedback, recognizing opportunities for growth, and applying lessons learned in high-acuity clinical settings.
