Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, part of Southern Vermont Health Services, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to support our urology practice. Position Overview
As a Nurse Practitioner within our Urology Department, you will work closely with our surgical team to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with urological conditions. You’ll play a vital role in managing patient care from initial assessment through follow-up, assisting in urological surgeries and procedures, and educating patients and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist urology surgeons in diagnosing and treating urological conditions
- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, assessments, and histories
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment and care plans
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging
- Support and assist with urologic surgeries and in-office procedures
- Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, and post-care instructions
- Manage post-operative care and ongoing follow-up
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, clinical staff, and administrative team members
- Adhere strictly to universal precautions and OSHA guidelines, managing exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases
Qualifications & Experience
- Valid certification as a Nurse Practitioner via ANCC
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably in urology or a related specialty
- VMS Certification required (ANCC preferred)
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills
- Comfort with performing clinical procedures and supporting surgical teams
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious materials, following OSHA standards
- Physically demanding activities including manual dexterity, patient handling, and standing for significant periods
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for clinical tasks
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. with appropriate precautions
- Visual requirements include close and color vision with the ability to adjust focus
