As a valued member of our Radiation Oncology program, you will provide advanced practice care to patients throughout their cancer journey, from consultation and treatment planning through survivorship and follow-up care. You will work closely with radiation oncologists, nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, and other oncology specialists to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current, unrestricted Michigan Registered Nurse license (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Current Nurse Practitioner specialty certification and national certification through ANCC or AANP
  • AG-ACNP, AG-PCNP, or FNP certification required; Acute Care certification preferred
  • DEA registration and Michigan Controlled Substance License (or ability to obtain)
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred if required by department
  • Two or more years of oncology experience preferred
  • Direct Radiation Oncology or Chemoradiation experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with oncologic urgencies, symptom management, pain management, and CTCAE toxicity grading preferred
  • Oncology certification (OCN or AOCNP) preferred

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and evaluations for consultation, treatment, and follow-up patients.
  • Conduct weekly on-treatment visits and assess treatment tolerance, symptom burden, and radiation-related toxicities.
  • Evaluate and manage acute and long-term effects of radiation therapy and chemoradiation.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment and survivorship care plans in collaboration with radiation oncologists.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, laboratory studies, and surveillance testing as appropriate.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies for symptom management and supportive oncology care.
  • Support evaluation and management of oncologic emergencies including spinal cord compression, symptomatic brain metastases, superior vena cava syndrome, and treatment-related complications.
  • Provide inpatient consultations and coordinate care with hospital-based teams as assigned.
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, expected side effects, and self-management strategies.
  • Triage patient phone calls and portal messages and provide timely clinical recommendations.
  • Coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams including medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiology, pathology, palliative care, nutrition, rehabilitation, and social work.
  • Participate in tumor boards, case conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental committees.
  • Support clinical research activities, protocol-directed care, and patient follow-up when applicable.
  • Serve as a mentor and educator for students, nursing staff, and new team members.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record while supporting regulatory compliance and quality care standards.
