Neurosciences Institute at Silver Cross Hospital - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant needed for growing program!

Silver Cross Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (collectively referred to as an Advanced Practice Provider or APP) to join our growing Neurosciences Institute. The Neurosciences Institute at Silver Cross Hospital currently has an employed endovascular neurosurgeon and two APPS who partner with physicians at The University of Chicago to provide our patients with care in Telestroke, Stroke Neurology, Endovascular Neuro, and Neurosurgery. The APP, under the responsibility and supervision of the supervising physician, will provide care in multiple settings including but not limited to the outpatient clinic, inpatient consults and rounding, and assisting with procedures (based on interest and experience). Our program continues to advance and grow, positioning us to add to our dedicated team of APPs.

Responsibilities: APP will demonstrate clinical expertise and ability to function as part of a collaborative care team to deliver patient care including performing diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services. APP will assist in gathering patient data necessary to diagnose and develop a plan of care with the supervising physician. APP will provide direct clinical care including: collect health history; perform physical examination; prescribe/order medications or therapies; order and interpret lab testing, imaging studies and other modalities in line with clinical privileges; provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families and may help develop education materials. APP will actively participate in quality improvement programs and staff education initiatives. APP will document all care and education provided and/or procedures performed. APP will refer to and partner with other clinical disciplines as appropriate, and serve as a consultant for neurosurgical care as directed by the supervising physician. APP will maintain a professional image and demeanor.

Work Shift Details: Days – First Shift
The APP will participate in care for both neurosurgery and neuroendovascular patients. The services are covered on site by APPs 5 days per week during daytime hours, with remote weekend support as needed. Typical hours will depend on the compliment and availability of the team but currently range from 4-5 shifts per week.

Position Requirements
-Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR accredited physician assistant program
-For APN neurosurgery candidates – must have acute care certification and experience/training in surgical assist (or desire to complete training)
-Licensed APN or PA in the State of Illinois
-Controlled Substance and DEA license (or ability to get one within six months of hire)
-PALS / ACLS certification
-Experience in Neurosciences preferred
-Electronic Medical Record proficiency (experience with Cerner is a plus)
-Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate optimal patient care in a complex healthcare environment
-Ability to get to the hospital within 60 minutes
-Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations
