Duties and Responsibilities
• Consult with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms and review their medical history and referrals from doctors or surgeons
• Diagnose movement dysfunction by listening to patients and observing them as they move
• Devise detailed individualized treatment plans to achieve needs and goals
• Exercise personal judgment (i.e., make modifications as needed) during treatment execution to ensure patient safety and continued progress
• Motivate and encourage patients throughout treatment process
• Devise detailed exercise techniques, stretches, and self-care programs for patients to complete between sessions
• Use hands-on therapy such as massage to ease patients' pain and provide stimulation to promote healing
• Maintain patient records by keeping track of goals and progress while adapting treatment plans accordingly
• Communicate with patients' physicians regularly to ensure consistent care
• Reduce patients' need for medications and surgeries by improving range of motion, strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance
• Advise patients and their families on in-home treatment options and what to expect from the recovery process
• Coach patients and teach them therapeutic exercises and stretches to improve their condition
• Comply with federal and state physical therapy regulations
• Maintain patient confidentiality
Requirements and Qualifications
• Proven work ethic and dedication to patient care throughout the recovery process
• Ability to communicate and adapt to different patients and personalities
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• A high level of professionalism and personal ethics
• Compassion and empathy for patients, who are often in pain
• Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with patients and motivate them
• Extensive education in the field of physical therapy as well as clinical experience
• A thorough knowledge of current treatment practices
• A valid license to practice physical therapy in the State of Michigan
• CPR and first aid certification a plus
Pay: $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
