Position Summary

Gonzaba Medical Group is seeking a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic to serve as a clinical leader within its Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team.

The Chiropractor evaluates patients, develops individualized plans of care, and provides evidence-based treatment for musculoskeletal and functional conditions. This position works under the clinical direction of the Medical Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, rehabilitation technicians, and other members of the care team.

The Chiropractor is also responsible for monitoring patient progress, modifying treatment plans when appropriate, maintaining timely and accurate documentation, and supporting a safe, patient-centered clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Evaluation and Treatment

• Interpret referrals and prescriptions from physicians and non-physician providers.
• Review patient charts, medical histories, and progress before treatment.
• Perform patient examinations, evaluations, tests, and measurements.
• Evaluate and re-evaluate patients to determine the medical necessity and effectiveness of treatment.
• Develop individualized plans of care based on evaluation findings.
• Establish realistic functional goals based on the patient’s needs and expectations.
• Present treatment plans and goals to patients and their families when appropriate.
• Provide chiropractic manipulation and treatment for referred patients.
• Diagnose, treat, and help prevent musculoskeletal conditions involving the spine and extremities.
• Modify treatment plans and interventions based on patient progress, safety, comfort, and clinical response.
• Direct and issue durable medical equipment through approved vendors when appropriate.
• Perform employer physicals, Department of Transportation physicals, drug-testing services, and workers’ compensation evaluations as needed.

Documentation and Quality of Care

• Complete accurate treatment notes for all patients seen each day.
• Properly code services and collaborate with the Billing Department to support timely and accurate billing.
• Document clinical findings, patient responses, objective measurements, and progress toward established goals.
• Report abnormal values and clinical findings to the appropriate provider.
• Access and update the electronic medical record to obtain and provide relevant patient information.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy requirements.
• Follow organizational, departmental, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
• Support quality initiatives, including HEDIS measures, risk-management health visits, and other departmental goals.

Clinical Leadership and Collaboration

• Provide clinical supervision and direction to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Technicians.
• Train technicians and oversee their clinical activities.
• Hold regular meetings with rehabilitation technicians to support quality patient care and regulatory compliance.
• Communicate with providers, technicians, department leadership, and other care team members regarding patient progress and goals.
• Meet regularly with referring providers to discuss patient referrals and care coordination.
• Help resolve departmental concerns and maintain open communication among team members.
• Participate in staff counseling and performance reviews when assigned.
• Serve as a clinical resource and role model for the rehabilitation team.

Patient Service and Safety

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based treatment tailored to each patient’s plan of care.
• Maintain a high level of customer service during in-person, telephone, and telehealth interactions.
• Treat patients, families, visitors, providers, and co-workers with professionalism, tact, and courtesy.
• Safely assist patients with sitting, standing, lying down, walking, wheelchair transfers, and other mobility needs.
• Prioritize patient safety and take appropriate steps to prevent falls.
• Follow universal precaution standards when handling specimens, cleaning treatment areas, and interacting with patients.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked exam and procedure rooms.

Department and Organizational Support

• Participate in marketing activities for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Occupational Medicine departments.
• Conduct off-site lectures, educational programs, or classes as needed.
• Prepare attorney narratives when requested.
• Maintain required clinical competencies and participate in continuing education.
• Serve as backup support for other department personnel and PM&R locations.
• Travel to Gonzaba Medical Group locations on a rotational basis to support patient care.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides clinical, non-administrative supervision to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Technicians as needed to support high-quality patient care.

Education and Licensure

• Doctor of Chiropractic degree required.
• Current license to practice chiropractic care in the state of Texas required.
• Successful completion of National Board Examinations Parts I, II, III, and IV required.
• Successful completion of the Physiotherapy and Texas State Board examinations required.
• Current CPR and AED certification required and must be maintained.

Experience

• Two to four years of chiropractic experience preferred.
• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of evidence-based chiropractic and rehabilitation practices.
• Ability to evaluate patients and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Strong clinical documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with providers, technicians, patients, and other members of the care team.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.
• Working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, internet, and database software.
• Ability to work efficiently and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Work Environment

This position works in a clinical environment and may involve exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions commonly found in healthcare settings.

Physical Requirements

The position requires:

• Sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
• Manual dexterity and the ability to perform chiropractic treatments.
• The ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• The ability to safely assist and transport patients.
• The ability to work efficiently under pressure.
