We are seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Radiology team with a focus on Cardiac CT and MRI Imaging. The APP will play a key role in the clinical evaluation, coordination, and protocoling of Cardiac CT and MRI studies, ensuring appropriate patient selection, safety, and high-quality imaging outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment & Clearance
- Review patient referrals and clinical history to determine Cardiac CT or MRI appropriateness (e.g., CAD-RADS, pre-TAVR, congenital heart disease, etc.)
- Conduct chart reviews and risk assessments for premedication, contrast, radiation exposure, and sedation if applicable
- Protocoling & Coordination
- Collaborate with cardiologists and radiologists to select appropriate protocols (e.g., coronary CTA, calcium scoring, CT angiography, cardiac MRI)
- Ensure beta-blocker and nitroglycerin protocols are applied appropriately
- Work closely with CT and MRI technologists to ensure proper scan setup and patient prep
- Supervise stress cardiac CT and MRI exams
- Patient Communication & Education
- Educate patients on the procedure, medication prep, and post-imaging instructions
- Address questions related to risks, benefits, and logistics of the scan
- Clinical Collaboration
- Serve as the primary point of contact between referring providers and Radiology for Cardiac CT and MRI
- Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions (e.g., TAVR, Heart Team, Cardiology-Radiology conferences)
- Documentation & Workflow Optimization
- Document clinical reviews, protocol decisions, and follow-up needs in the EMR
- Contribute to ongoing process improvement, quality assurance, and report standardization in Cardiac CT and MRI
Qualifications:
- Licensed NP (AGACNP/FNP) or PA-C in [MA]
- Experience in cardiology, radiology, or advanced imaging protocols strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Epic (or relevant EMR), cardiac anatomy, and imaging workflow is a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple specialties
- 3-5 years of experience strongly preferred
- ability to travel to UMass Health Community sites as needed on occasion (Leominster, Marlboro, Harrington)
Schedule & Reporting:
- Full-time (Monday Friday, day hours) (some ability to work hybrid 1-2 days a week if clinical responsibilities allow)
- Reports to the Radiology Department APP Director
- Works in collaboration with Radiologists, Cardiologists, and CT and MRI Technologists
