Chief Medical Officer Opportunity – Lead Clinical Strategy in a Mission-Driven Health System

Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System (WCHS) is seeking an experienced Board Certified or Board Eligible physician leader to serve as Chief Medical Officer in Winnebago, Nebraska.

Candidates may come from a background in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine, with experience across more than one of these specialties considered a plus.

This is a full-time, employed executive leadership opportunity for a physician who wants to help shape clinical strategy, advance quality initiatives, support provider engagement, and influence the continued development of a mission-driven tribal healthcare system.

Position Overview

• Senior physician leadership role with approximately 80% administrative/20% clinical time
• Approximately one day per week in clinic
• Flexibility for increased administrative time during onboarding
• Oversight and collaboration across inpatient and outpatient services
• Key member of the executive leadership team
• Replacement position

Candidate Profile

• Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) required
• Training in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine
• Experience across more than one of these specialties is a plus
• Proven or emerging physician leadership experience
• Comfortable balancing executive leadership responsibilities with limited clinical practice
• Interest in serving a high-need community with an HPSA score of 19

Practice & Facility Highlights

WCHS offers a multidisciplinary environment with both inpatient and outpatient services.

• Full-service hospital campus with Lab, Radiology, and Pharmacy
• 13-bed hospital with low acuity and complexity
• Average inpatient census of approximately 1 patient per day
• ED providers round on admitted patients
• Multidisciplinary team including:
  • 6 Physicians
  • 10 APPs
• Meditech Expanse EMR
• Access to specialty services including Dermatology, Urology, Nephrology, Family Practice, and Podiatry

Clinical Responsibilities

The clinical component of the position is designed to complement the CMO's executive responsibilities.

• Outpatient clinic panel of approximately 500 patients
• In-office procedures permitted
• Clinical calls routed through a nursing line
• Administrative on-call responsibilities shared among C-suite leadership

Schedule

• Standard clinic coverage:
  • Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Leadership on-call rotation shared with the executive team
• Approximately 80% administrative / 20% clinical
