Responsibilities
Ascension Saint Thomas Cardiovascular Service Line is adding a Co-Director.
The Ascension Saint Thomas Heart Cardiovascular Service Line consists of 78 cardiologists, 9 cardiac surgeons, and 93 advanced level practitioners providing services across 20 Ascension Saint Thomas and independent Hospitals and 45 clinic facilities throughout Tennessee.
The Cardiovascular Service Line Co-Director will join the current Co-director (cardiac surgeon) to serve as both a clinical leader and a practicing cardiologist, partnering with administrative and medical teams to manage and enhance the cardiovascular service line. This position requires balancing direct patient care with strategic oversight to advance the quality, growth, and integration of cardiovascular services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Cardiovascular Service Line Director and other co-directors to establish and implement the strategic vision and operational plans for the service line.
• Provide high-quality patient care through clinical practice, including diagnosing, treating, and managing cardiovascular conditions.
• Lead clinical initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, safety, and the overall quality of cardiovascular care.
• Serve as a key liaison between the medical staff and administrative leadership to align clinical priorities with business objectives.
• Participate in and oversee quality assurance and performance improvement programs within the cardiovascular service line.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior cardiologists, residents, and fellows to support clinical education and training.
• Contribute to the development and enforcement of clinical protocols, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and committees related to cardiovascular care, ensuring collaboration with other specialties.
• Support and participate in community outreach efforts and promote cardiovascular health education.
• Assist with budget planning, resource allocation, and identifying opportunities for service line growth and development.
• Drive initiatives related to research, clinical trials, or publications to contribute to advancements in the field of cardiology.
Qualifications:
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with board certification in cardiology.
• Active and unrestricted medical license.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of clinical experience in cardiology, with some experience in leadership roles preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in clinical cardiology and patient care.
• Strong leadership and team collaboration skills.
• Ability to balance clinical and administrative responsibilities effectively.
• Experience with quality improvement, data analysis, and evidence-based practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with patients, staff, and colleagues.
Skills:

Work Environment:
This dual role includes both clinical practice and administrative duties. The Co-Director may need to attend meetings, contribute to strategy discussions, and interact with multiple teams within the organization. This role is vital for ensuring that the cardiovascular service line maintains clinical excellence while achieving operational and strategic goals.

• Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. KY License also required if working in a Kentucky facility.
Education:
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
